About Us
A Nature-Filled Coastal Retreat with Deep Maritime History

Welcome to Captain's Inn at Moss Landing, your peaceful coastal escape located in the heart of Monterey Bay's protected coastal wetlands. Surrounded by wildlife, small-town harbor charm, and the quiet beauty of nature, our inn offers a perfect blend of history, comfort, and authentic California coastal living.

Located just one block off scenic Highway 1 — and only 20 minutes from Monterey, Carmel, and Santa Cruz — Captain's Inn is the ideal home base for exploring the entire region without the crowds or congestion.
A Historic Home with a Maritime Legacy
Captain's Inn is deeply connected to the maritime heritage of Moss Landing.
The Historic House, built in the early 1900s, originally served as a private residence for a local sea captain's family who lived steps away from the tidal channels of the Old Salinas River. The home provided warmth, safety, and gathering space for sailors and families during the early harbor years.

When the property was later restored and transformed into an inn, the original architectural details — handcrafted woodwork, period decor, and the home's nautical soul — were carefully preserved.
Today, the Historic Building reflects the spirit of "old Moss Landing," offering guests a unique glimpse into the region's coastal past while enjoying modern amenities and comfort.
